Over two hundred years ago, American Patriots fought and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. Through participation in the Society’s programs and activities you can continue this legacy by actively supporting historic preservation and promoting educational and patriotic endeavors. Any woman 18 years or older regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership. Members of the Cherokee District DAR at the grave site of Nanyehi, beloved Cherokee woman
Members of the Cherokee District chapters gathered together at the grave site of Cherokee beloved woman Nanyehi, known in English as Nancy Ward. |
Five women who are descendants of Nancy Ward were in attendance. |
Becky Hobbs, one of the "family" (in the beautiful bright-colored dress) sang "Amazing Grace" in the Cherokee language. It was really beautiful. |
